Playtest Launch Party!

Hard Void is the passion project test game built around a universal creative commons licensed game engine I am developing called the Soul Core Engine. Tabletop RPGs have been a part of my life somehow for near 2 decades, and my passion for them lead me to maybe dream that I too can one day put a book in a players hand, and give them something they can have actual fun with, casually or long term. The problem with most RPGs is the value in the character, and the dangers of being too risky. While that in itself can create interesting narratives, and pose great challenges to overcome it's not exactly the game I am looking to make. The Soul Core Engine is created to take away the worries of losing the character you spent 10 hours writing a back story for and couldn't name for 3 days.

This Soul Core Engine is my own exploration in to the world and theories of Transhumanism https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transhumanism consciousness, even the idea of what it means to actually be.  However with thought experiments to the wayside I wanted to create a system that empowers players to take great risks, and push their luck and try again if they mess up.  True death is an option in this game, utilized as a mechanic to build a new character from scratch. Though if you've grown attached to your mighty Marine, well don't worry, they are never really gone. They just manage to jump from body to body as needed. Steve one day might look like a lanky brown haired surfer but the next hes a straight laced red haired business man. It's still Steve, just not exactly how you remembered him looking.

The Big Bad Evil Guy section of the rule book I am quite proud of as a mechanic to the game. Giving the GM one last hurrah to throw their hardest challenge at the Players. Giving a rewarding feeling to the players if they win against the strongest foe of the game, or letting the GM walk away with the last laugh having beaten the players and every last one of their available re-spawns.

Now the game is designed and intended to be able to be played casually, but I wanted to also include parts to the module that allowed for longer term game play, narrative story, conflict resolution, and even character progression. The Universe vague and open on purpose to allow the GM to narrate and create any story they desire.  However I still provided the tools to allow a game master to generate random ideas from resource tables and even four pre-made Marines balanced to be a highly cooperative team encouraging quick pickup and play for players with limited schedules, or new players to get a feel for role play with out having to dig through a million rules on character creation, successes, failures, deaths, and the many other features the module includes. Please have a look for yourself, and share with me a cheer for a project was finally given life today, and I cant wait to see it grow!

See ya on deck Marine.
